What To Expect When You Arrive

Nestled in a semi-private location in Downtown Cartersville, the Etowah Counseling office offers a warm and welcoming environment. When you arrive, enter our soothing lobby and get a complimentary coffee or water. Sit in our quiet, comfortable space while you wait for your therapist to arrive and escort you to the therapy room.  Arriving with children? We have a waiting space with resources for children and guest wifi for devices, all provided in an effort to help you and your child while you wait for your appointment.

Living room with two tan leather armchairs, a small round side table with plants and a candle, a black coffee table with decorative items, a gold floor lamp, and a patterned area rug near windows with closed blinds.

Your first session is primarily about getting to know each other. We’ll talk about what brought you in, what you’re hoping will change, and any important background that helps us understand your story.

There’s no pressure to share everything at once. You can go at your own pace. We may review some paperwork and discuss goals, but the heart of the first session is building comfort and clarity about how we’ll work together.

Many people leave their first appointment feeling relieved — simply because they’ve finally said things out loud in a safe space.

Your Therapy Journey

Therapy is a collaborative process. Some sessions may focus on processing emotions and experiences. Others may emphasize practical tools, communication skills, or strategies for managing stress.

You may experience:

  • Insight into patterns or triggers

  • Emotional moments as you work through important topics

  • Skill-building and new coping strategies

  • A growing sense of clarity and confidence

Progress looks different for everyone. We’ll regularly check in about how therapy is feeling and whether adjustments are needed.

Change Starts Now
